Consumers in India are more willing to share their personal data for smart vehicle features than their global counterparts, even as they weigh factors such as charging time, infrastructure availability and battery safety before going for electric vehicle adoption, highlights a report by Deloitte.According to the 2025 Global Automotive Consumer Study– India by Deloitte, 88 per cent of Indians are open to providing personal data for anti-theft tracking and connectivity benefits, higher than 60 per cent in the US.EV adoption amid price sensitivity

As per the findings, 82 per cent of consumers view AI as beneficial and prioritise vehicle-smartphone connectivity. Also, more Indian consumers are concerned about affordability of EVs to the extent of consumers preferring to explore ICE options.

The report states that 36 per cent of consumers in India prioritise fast charging, underscoring rising expectations from EV infrastructure.

“The EV movement is gaining undeniable momentum, driven by consumer interest in sustainability and long-term cost benefits. Yet, barriers such as charging infrastructure, upfront costs and battery longevity continue to influence consumers,” said Rajat Mahajan, partner and automotive sector leader, Deloitte India.

Innovation is the key

In addition, growing influence of digital platforms and OEM-led sales channels is disrupting the traditional dealership models as 76 per cent of Indian consumers prefer purchasing vehicles directly from manufacturers.
