New Delhi: Corporate travel is undergoing a green transformation, as companies across industries adopt environmentally conscious practices to reduce carbon footprint and nudge their employees to also explore eco-friendly options while travelling for work.

Companies in the technology, finance, consumer goods and healthcare sectors are actively changing the way their employees travel, said Rikant Pittie, CEO and co-Founder of EaseMyTrip.

These companies are opting for carbon-neutral flights, low-emission transport, eco-certified accommodations and travel experiences that uplift local communities, he said, adding, “Sustainable corporate travel is becoming a core priority for forward-thinking Indian businesses.”Professional services firm Grant Thornton Bharat is on its journey to carbon neutrality, said its partner and chief business officer Satya Jha.To reduce its carbon footprint, the company is limiting business travel to essential trips, and only after virtual alternatives have been exhausted. In cases where travel is inevitable, it is pushing for greener options. “(We are encouraging) travel using electric cars for work as much as possible… for which we have partnered with some electric mobility companies,” said Jha, adding the company has also provided electric bikes to support staff.ABB, technology leader in electrification and automation, is similarly promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs).”Sustainability is part of our corporate strategy and business success, and we are actively driving initiatives that support greener mobility,” said Rajesh Kumar Jha, country environment and sustainability manager at ABB India. “EVs are now deployed for local visits across ABB India locations, and we have installed EV charging stations across our campuses to support this growing shift.” The next step for ABB is to use EVs for logistics, including delivery of finished goods to warehouses, he said.According to Sukesh Shetty, head of B2B at Cleartrip, manufacturing firms and conglomerates are leading sustainable travel practices.

Environmental Goals

Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Limited has formed a pan-India ‘Green Committee’ that ideates and implements the best green practices across the group.”Corporate travellers are increasingly prioritising sustainability when choosing their accommodations, aligning their travel decisions with personal and corporate environmental goals. Studies indicate that 70-80% of travellers prefer sustainable travel and stay options, with nearly 40% willing to pay 5-20% more for eco-conscious choices,” said Rajesh Radhakrishnan, area general manager, THE Park Chennai. “This shift is also evident in corporate hotel partnerships, where selection criteria now extend beyond accommodation quality to include sustainability initiatives.”India is Asia’s second most sustainability-conscious travel market, as per Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey, with 82% Indian travellers factoring sustainability into their plans.
