To address the growing traffic challenges in Gurugram, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, as part of its CSR initiative, has partnered with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Gurugram.
The system will cover 23 junctions across 40 kilometres and utilise approximately 400 cameras and a radar system. The ITMS aims to improve traffic management, enhance road safety, and aid law enforcement.
To address the high congestion
The ITMS will be installed and maintained by Maruti Suzuki and integrated with the GMDA’s existing systems. The project will contribute to detecting traffic violations more efficiently.
“With the rapid development of Gurugram, the challenges associated with traffic have increased multi-fold in the city. I am sure that Maruti Suzuki’s initiative will be helpful in effectively detecting traffic violations, improving law enforcement, and enhancing road safety,” said Shyamal Misra, IAS, chief executive officer of GMDA.
Rising road accidents
Electronic surveillance and enforcement can deter dangerous driving, reduce violations, and ultimately improve compliance with traffic regulations.
Rahul Bharti, executive officer, corporate affairs at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed gratitude to the GMDA and Gurugram police for their collaboration. He reaffirmed Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to strengthening traffic enforcement, promoting road safety, and fostering a culture of responsible driving in Gurugram. The project underscores the serious concern of road accidents in India.
