With the 2025-2026 financial year coming to an end, the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) has shown a 15 per cent rise in vehicle registrations in the last financial year, compared to the previous financial year of 2024-2025, senior officials said.
Senior officials of the Nashik RTO said the rise in vehicle registrations has resulted in tax collection of over ₹497.9 crore.
RTO officials said the 15 per cent rise in vehicle registrations is remarkably high compared to the previous financial year, as 2024-25 showed only a 5 per cent rise in vehicle registrations when compared to the vehicle registrations of 2023-2024.
According to the RTO figures, in 2025-26 the RTO registered a total of 1,23,695 vehicles as against 1,06,823 vehicles registered in 2024-25. The maximum number of vehicles registered was, as usual, two-wheelers, totalling 87,435, followed by 23,519 cars and 1,207 cabs.
Meanwhile, many people said that given the weak public transport system in Nashik compared to the growing population, commuters preferr relying on their own transport, which has led to rising vehicle sales.
Many also said that if Nashik got a robust public transport system connecting different parts of the city and the district, people would definitely prefer to commute by public transport than using their own vehicles.
A senior RTO official said that while the registration of new vehicles is satisfactory as it has also led to revenue generation for the govt, motorists buying new vehicles should ensure that they drive responsibly, which in turn would lead to fewer road accidents.
