Is Gianpiero Lambiase’s decision to leave Red Bull in 2028 a sign Max Verstappen is planning to hang up his helmet by then?

Regardless, with Lambiase taking on the role of chief racing officer when he joins McLaren, one of Formula 1’s most successful and enduring partnerships between driver and engineer now has an end date stamped on it.

The combination of Lambiase’s unflappable style and Verstappen’s tendency to shoot from the hip has produced many entertaining exchanges between the pair over their 10 years together. Here’s a selection of the highlights.

“Unbelievable”: 2016 Spanish Grand Prix

Verstappen won his first race after his shock switch to Red Bull’s top team from its junior squad Toro Rosso, in the days when Formula One Management did not broadcast the drivers’ radios in full.

“Face to face with Godzilla”: 2016 Singapore Grand Prix

Verstappen’s encounter with a monitor lizard on the track during practice in Singapore in 2016 had a sequel at the same track seven years later.

SpeakerMessage
VerstappenThere’s a giant lizard on the track.
LambiaseFace to face with Godzilla then, mate.

When Verstappen spotted another lizard on the same track in 2023 he remarked to Lambiase it was “a smaller one this time.” “Maybe Godzilla had a kid,” Lambiase suggested.

“Well held”: 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix

At a soaked Interlagos, Verstappen recovered from a costly pit stop to claim the final place on the podium. Lambiase spoke for everyone when he praised Verstappen’s car control for keeping his Red Bull out of the barriers when it snapped sideways underneath him at one point.

LapSpeakerMessage

29VerstappenThe conditions are much better than before.
29LambiaseProbably conflicts of interest going on amongst the drivers, I expect that’s the problem.
31VerstappenI’m ready to race. It’s maybe a little bit worse than before but we can race.
31LambiaseOK, understood.
32LambiaseVerstappen passes Rosberg
Get in there Maxie.
39LambiaseVerstappen catches a huge slide on the pit straight
Okay well held Max, well held.

“Simply, mate”: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix

“Simply lovely” became a repeated refrain between the pair as Verstappen amassed more successes. It first appeared when he gained the lead at the start of the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix after championship contenders Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton tangled. Lambiase joined his driver on the podium to celebrate his third win.

“Max, overtake him”: 2018 Austrian Grand Prix qualifying

By his third season at Red Bull, the competition between Verstappen and team mate Daniel Ricciardo was becoming increasingly strained. The pair collided while fighting for position in Baku.

Then in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix, Ricciardo was unwilling to lead his team mate out onto the track, allowing Verstappen to benefit from his slipstream. “There’s no point me running” and “punching a hole” for Verstappen complained Ricciardo, while his race engineer Simon Rennie told him twice to “get on with it.”

Lambiase became concerned that waiting behind Ricciardo was going to cost Verstappen his chance to set a lap time. But Verstappen refused to pass his team mate and insisted he follow their arrangement.

VerstappenWhat’s going on?
LambiaseOvertake him mate, just overtake him.
VerstappenNo. Last weekend I was in front, now he is in front.
LambiaseMax, overtake him mate,
VerstappenNo. It’s discipline

Verstappen duly took fourth on the grid – three places ahead of Ricciardo – and went on to win the race.

“I’m sure you can imagine where that delta is”: 2018 United States Grand Prix

The shortcomings of Red Bull’s Renault power unit (branded as TAG Heuer) was a regular theme of the complaints between Verstappen and Lambiase in their early years together. However it didn’t prevent them pulling off some excellent results, as when he climbed 16 places to finish second at the Circuit of the Americas:

LambiaseBottas last lap 40.0. Vettel last lap 40.2 so the gap to Vettel is still at 9.2.
LambiaseIt’s only the middle sector to Bottas. I’m sure you can imagine where that delta is.
VerstappenYeah I’m missing some ponies there.
LambiaseMax that’s P2 mate, how about that?
VerstappenA bit unexpected starting 18th! Good race.
LambiaseMode one please mate.

“Please slow it down”: 2018 Mexican Grand Prix

On a day when Verstappen’s rivals complained their tyres were “a disgrace for Formula 1”, Lambiase pleaded with Verstappen to take care of his rubber on his way to victory in Mexico:

LambiaseThat was purple sectors two and three. We don’t need it, mate. Vettel looks like he’s either given up the ghost or his tyres can’t handle it. Six tenths loss in those two sectors. His last lap was a 19.7.
VerstappenI know we don’t need it but it’s nice.
LambiaseWe have now turned the engine down, Max, for reference.
LambiaseYeah, OK Max, that’s purple, that’s purple. Please slow it down. Five laps to go.
LambiaseDo you copy now? There you go, Bottas on a fresh set. It’s out of reach. Don’t worry about it, bring it home.

“He’s out on fresh supers”: 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix

Verstappen was on course for his sixth win when Esteban Ocon appeared in his mirrors at Interlagos. Ocon, who had just left the pits on fresh rubber, attempted to un-lap himself from Verstappen, but the pair made contact, sending the Red Bull spinning and costing him the victory.

VerstappenI have this Force India behind me, pushing.
LambiaseUnderstood. Yeah he’s out on fresh supers.
LambiaseLast lap Hamilton 13.7.
VerstappenWhat a fucking idiot!
VerstappenWhat a fucking idiot!
LambiaseAlright. Calm yourself down for the moment, Max.
VerstappenAh mate massive floor damage. Fuck!
VerstappenGive me directions with tools.
LambiaseYep just looking through the data now.
VerstappenFind pictures, on pictures you can see what’s actually broken.
LambiaseYeah we’ve lost load on the pod front, we’re measuring it, I’ll give you an update on data and what we can do with tools but obviously for the moment you know what you can feel so get on that and be proactive.
LambiaseCharge 10 when you can, Max.
VerstappenMate battery is empty.
LambiaseYeah that’s why we need charge 10, need to charge that up again.
LambiaseAlright Max we have lost a significant amount of downforce but we think it’s fairly well-balanced so you just need to manage it. Last lap Hamilton 12.9, yours was a 12.7. Gap is at 5.2. We can do this mate, come on.

A furious Verstappen confronted and shoved Ocon in the paddock after the race. While the Force India driver was penalised for the collision, the FIA ordered Verstappen to perform two days of public service for pushing him.

LambiaseMate, I don’t know what to say, mate. I do not know what to say about that.
VerstappenYeah I know what to say. I hope I can’t find him now in the paddock because then he has a fucking problem. What a dick.

“We’re a little bit close”: 2020 70th Anniversary Grand Prix

Equipped with a Honda power unit from 2019, Verstappen became a more regular threat for victory, though Mercedes remained the team to beat. In the fifth round of the pandemic-disrupted 2020 season – a second race at Silverstone dubbed the ’70th Anniversary Grand Prix’ – Verstappen overruled Lambiase’s warnings about his tyres to take the lead and win.

table class=’brandedtable radio-transcript’>

Lambiase:Max I think we’re a little bit close for tyres at this stage.Verstappen:Mate, this is the only chance of being close to the Mercedes, I’m not sitting behind like a grandma.

After the race team principal Christian Horner said Verstappen had been “absolutely right” to overrule Lambiase.

“You don’t need to repeat it again”: 2020 Spanish Grand Prix

But at the Circuit de Catalunya the Red Bull was clearly not quick enough to challenge the Mercedes. Verstappen told Lambiase there was little point being preoccupied with them:

VerstappenTurn seven is horrible now.
LambiaseThat’s increasing tail wind through turn seven, entry to exit.
VerstappenTail wind, I don’t care. Just shit tyres.
VerstappenDo you want me to repeat it again? The fucking tyre is dead.
LambiaseYou don’t need to repeat it again Max.
VerstappenI’m losing so much time. Who cares if they get in front, I’m easily faster.
LambiaseAfter Verstappen’s pit stop
Obviously we were nowhere nearly undercut range to Lewis. So control the peaks early on. I’ll keep you posted on Bottas’s tyres.
VerstappenHow about we just focus on our race, first, for a start instead of looking at Lewis? Because clearly on the soft tyre we were not as fast as them. So can we just make sure we do our job and let them do their job?

“Final front wing update”: 2021 Spanish Grand Prix

The situation was very different in 2021, when Verstappen fought Hamilton for the world championship. Hamilton’s victory in Spain came after a rare lapse on the Red Bull pit wall which saw Verstappen appear for a tyre change before Lambiase had summoned him in.

Verstappen arrived in the pit lane after the following exchange. “We hadn’t actually called him in at that point,” Horner confirmed afterwards. “[It was] quick reactions from the pit wall, from GP, his race engineer, from the pit crew to get that turned around without losing more time. I think it was a four-second stop.”:

Verstappen:Mate look at my tyre set.
Lambiase:Strat seven position one, please. Strat seven position one.
Lambiase:Blue flags for Mazepin ahead
Lambiase:And Max final front wing update for next stint please
Verstappen:Yeah it’s okay

“One piece of luck”: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Max Verstappen celebrates his 2021 world championship victory

Verstappen clinched the title in a controversial finale at Yas Marina, where race director Michael Masi caused outrage by breaking the rules to order a last-lap restart, while moving only enough lapped cars out of the way to give Verstappen a clear shot at Hamilton.

Verstappen had kept within range of his rival partly thanks to his team mate Sergio Perez holding Hamilton up:

Lap: 21/58
VerstappenOh, Checo is a legend.
LambiaseAbsolute animal.

This meant that when the Safety Car was deployed, Hamilton was not far enough ahead of Verstappen to be able to pit without falling behind his rival. Red Bull therefore took advantage of the opportunity to put Verstappen on fresh tyres, and the controversial restart gave him the opportunity to pass:

Lap: 53/58
LambiaseMax, there’s yellow flags at turn 14, Latifi is completely in the middle of the road, debris all over the shop. Safety Car deployed, Max, Safety Car deployed. Dash positive. Keep tight around turn 14.
LambiaseBox and pit confirm please Max. Box, pit confirm. Strat 12 in pit lane.

Although the circumstances of Verstappen’s triumph provoked enormous criticism, leading to Masi’s firing and sweeping changes in the FIA’s management of races, the Red Bull driver had fought a remarkably strong campaign to arrive at the final round tied in the points with Hamilton. After his shock championship win, Lambiase told him the last-lap restart was the first piece of luck he’d had all year:

Lap: 58/58
LambiaseWatch the weaving. Stay on-line now.
LambiasePress and hold the overtake. Press and hold the overtake.
LambiaseJust easy through turn 14.
VerstappenOh, my God yes! Yes, yes! Oh, my God! Oh my God!
HornerMax Verstappen. You are the world champion, the world champion!
LambiaseMate you absolutely deserve it. You absolutely deserve it. You’ve had no luck. Not had the rub of the green. Recharge on please, recharge on.
HornerMax. We are so proud of you.
VerstappenOh, my God guys. I love you so much.
HornerYou have driven like a champion all year. You deserve that. We needed a bit of luck. You got it. You made it happen. And we love you. We absolutely fucking love you.
VerstappenIt is unbelievable guys. Can we do this for another 10, 15 years together?
LambiaseMate, honestly. Stay on-track please Max, stay on-track. Fail 84. Mate the whole season, they tried to bring you down all year. The one piece of luck. One piece of luck.
VerstappenWent down to the last lap, unbelievable.
LambiaseYou enjoy this mate.

“Box, box, box”: 2022 Singapore Grand Prix qualifying

One of the least enjoyable radio messages Lambiase had to give Verstappen occured in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix this following year. Red Bull misjudged Verstappen’s fuel level and Lambiase had to tell him to abort his final flying lap. That left him ninth on the grid while Perez qualified on the front row and won the race:

LambiaseVerstappen begins his penultimate lap
Okay. Let’s go.
LambiaseVerstappen makes a mistake at turn 16 and backs off. Lambiase spots it and tells him to prepare for his final effort
Okay, Max, we’ve got 15 seconds margin. We can increase the gap to Gasly. Increase gap to Gasly. Recharge on, mode one. Recharge on, mode one. I’ll let you know where to go.
VerstappenTell me when to go, yeah.
Lambiase23 seconds, still. 20 seconds. Strat one. And let’s go, Max. P1 currently a 49.4, that’s two seconds below your time.
LambiaseHaving had no previous warning about his fuel situation, as Verstappen approaches the final corners he is told to abandon his lap.
Box, Max! Box, box, box, box, box.
VerstappenWhy? What the… why? What the fuck? What the fuck?

“There seems to be some confusion”: 2022 Japanese Grand Prix

Max Verstappen, Gianpiero Lambiase, Red Bull, Suzuka, 2022

Verstappen successfully defended his championship but for the second year in a row the title was decided in farcical circumstances. The Japanese Grand Prix was shortened due to rain, meaning Red Bull were initially unsure if the race had finished. On top of that, full points were unexpectedly awarded for the shortened race, owing to a poorly-written new FIA rule, so Verstappen did not immediately realise he had in fact won his second title.

LambiaseFinal lap
LambiaseOkay Max, there seems to be some confusion over whether the race is over. We think it is, so just bring it home.

“You’ve used up all your strikes”: 2022 United States Grand Prix

Verstappen produced one of the most dominant performances ever as he won his second title. He claimed his 13th win of the year in Austin after a straightforward DRS pass on Hamilton, but Lambiase had to urge him not to stray beyond track limits over the final laps or risk a five second penalty. Verstappen had an insurance policy against that, however – he crossed the line 5.023 seconds ahead of Hamilton.

Lap: 50/56
LambiaseOkay mode nine Max, mode nine. Still seven laps remaining. Okay that gap is 0.9, you have…
VerstappenYeah mate I’m clipping into turn 11, what the fuck, why?
LambiaseOkay looked like a bit moving under braking but nice job.
Lap: 51/56
LambiaseThe overtake is available. If you want to cancel the clip, back to mode 10.
VerstappenYeah, yeah.
LambiaseOkay do it yourself, Max.
VerstappenGap?
Lambiase0.8.
LambiaseYou need to make sure you’re safe on track limits now, please, Max. Gap was 0.9.
Lap: 52/56
LambiaseYou’ve used up all your strikes now Max so you need to be safe on track limits. Gap 0.7, same as the last lap. That’s turn nine and 19 for track limits.

“Let Checo through”: 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen, Gianpiero Lambiase, Red Bull, Interlagos, 2022

In the final laps of the Brazilian Grand Prix that year Red Bull allowed Verstappen past Perez in the hope he could attack cars ahead, on the understanding that if he failed, he would let Perez through again. However Verstappen refused to give the place back.

“It shows who he really is,” Perez remarked. Horner apologised to Perez afterwards, but Verstappen had proven again there were some calls from Lambiase he would not obey.

VerstappenHow many laps?
LambiaseThis is the final lap, Max.
LambiaseMax, if we don’t pass Fernando on the exit of 12, can we let Checo through, please. Let Checo back through.

“Okay, box and pit confirm then”: 2023 Austrian Grand Prix

While Verstappen routed the field even more comprehensively in 2023, he had to find entertainment in other ways, such as by convincing Lambiase to let him have a go at the fastest lap in Austria that year:

Lap: 69/71 VER: 1’12.228
LambiaseOkay Max so if you start to cool the tyres, really start to cool the tyres now. If that means letting Gasly through, that’s also fine. Just a couple of laps off the pace.
VerstappenI prefer to box because this is silly to do that.
LambiaseWe don’t feel the risk of boxing is worthwhile, Max.
LambiaseFor reference, the fastest lap is just four-hundredths faster than your current fastest on the dash.
VerstappenAnd we are 24 seconds. Come on.
VerstappenThese tyres are not going to do better. They’re just degging.
LambiaseUnderstood, thank you.
Lap: 71/71 VER: 1’07.012
LambiaseOkay box and pit confirm then, Max. Box, pit confirm.

“How would that have gone down?”: 2023 Belgian Grand Prix qualifying

Verstappen and Lambiase had an unusually tense weekend at Spa that year, beginning in qualifying where they came close to being eliminated in Q2. While Verstappen complained he was put under pressure to set a fast lap at the very end of the session, Lambiase pointed out they had to take advantage of the optimum conditions at that point:

LapDriverMessage

“Not this time”: 2023 Belgian Grand Prix

The following day Lambiase was unwilling to go along with another request from Verstappen to attempt the fastest lap:

“GP and Max have been together since the first race that Max stepped into the car,” Horner said afterwards. “I think to race engineer Max Verstappen, you’ve got to have strength of character because he is one tough customer and many race engineers would crumble under that pressure or so on, and GP has got the strength of character to deal with that and the respect and trust between both the guys.”

“It’s childish”: 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen, Gianpiero Lambiase, Red Bull, 2024

By mid-2024, Red Bull’s supremacy was under serious threat from McLaren. At the Hungaroring everything seemed to go wrong for Verstappen: Lambiase told him to surrender a position to Norris after he went off at the start, then he clashed with Hamilton.

Lambiase refused to be drawn into a tit-for-tat over Hamilton’s driving, signalling his exasperation at the end of one of the most fraught races for the pair:

LambiaseUse your head.
LambiaseSo don’t forget, Max, use your head please.
VerstappenAre we both doing it, or what?
LambiaseYou just follow my instruction, thank you.
VerstappenNo. I want to know if both cars are doing it.
LambiaseMax, please follow my instruction and trust it, thank you.
LambiaseAfter his pit stop
Bring these in nicely – easy out-lap, please.
VerstappenJust let me know what fastest lap is
LambiaseThe most important thing is to look after this soft tyre. It’s a reasonable stint – 14 laps.
LambiaseYou used a lot of the tyre on an out-lap, Max. Not sure that was sensible.
LambiaseThat’s a better pace, but it’s still a second clear of Checo behind, Max. Cruise home, use your head.
VerstappenI could also push on and we do another stop. A little bit of pit stop training.
VerstappenNo, not this time.
Lap: 3/70 VER: 1’24.075
VerstappenMax, the incident is under investigation. I think our recommendation is you let this go. We can talk about it later. So if you let Lando past down to turn one.
VerstappenWhy don’t they just say what they think and then we decide. That’s just bullshit.
LambiaseSo recommend we give that place back into turn one, Max.
VerstappenOkay, so you can just run people off the track then. You can tell the FIA that’s how we’re going to race from now onwards. Just drive people off the road.
Lap: 4/70 VER: 1’26.075
LambiaseMax, we’ve got the pace here, mate. Just let him through. It’s a long race. We’ve got the pace. Head down.
VerstappenVerstappen lets Norris past approaching turn two
Yeah but that’s not my point.
LambiaseI agree with you. But let’s just get this done now. Now head down. Let’s go.
Lap: 41/70 VER: 1’23.221
Lambiase So both Hamilton and Leclerc in pit lane.
Verstappen It’s quite impressive how we let ourselves get undercut and just completely fucked my race.
Lap: 52/70 VER: 1’21.171
Lambiase Verstappen sets the fastest lap of the race so far
Well, that’s some gentle introduction.
Verstappen No mate don’t give me that bullshit now. You guys gave me this fucking strategy, okay? I’m trying to rescue what’s left. Fuck’s sake.
Lap: 63/70 VER: 1’28.648
Verstappen Verstappen and Hamilton collide at turn one
He moved under braking.
Lambiase I’m not even going to get into a radio fight with the other teams, Max. We’ll let the stewards do their thing. It’s childish, on the radio, childish.

Verstappen defended his strong stance on the radio. “Sometimes maybe some people think it’s very harsh, but that’s the way we operate,” he said. “This is not a personal attack at anyone, because at the end of the day, we are a team, we win and lose together. But I am quite vocal about it, that’s how I operate.”

[leaderboard0]

“That’s the rules”: 2025 Spanish Grand Prix

The following year Lambiase again ordered Verstappen to let a rival past after a contentious off-track moment. But this incident, at Circuit de Catalunya, was different: the stewards later judged Verstappen did not need to let George Russell past, as Red Bull had told him too.

But by then it was too late to prevent Verstappen’s reaction. Having slowed to let Russell catch him, he then caused a collision with the Mercedes driver. That triggered a 10-second time penalty, costing him nine points.

Verstappen’s unfathomable and unexplained decision to make contact with Russell’s car ultimately cost him that year’s world championship, which he lost to Lando Norris by two points, a fact which clearly remains a sore point.

Lap: 63/66 VER: 1’17.608
LambiaseMax, can you let Russell through, please? Let Russell through.
VerstappenWhat? I was ahead! Mate, what the fuck?
LambiaseMy advice is to let him through.
VerstappenMate I was ahead, he just rammed me off the road!
LambiaseBut that’s the rules. That’s the rules we have to play with. It’s a shame, but that’s the rules.
Lap: 65/66 VER: 1’18.122
LambiaseVerstappen lets Russell draw alongside him at turn five, hits him, then lets him pass for good at turn 12
Two laps remaining.
LambiaseYou’ve got one shot at the final straight Max.
VerstappenWhat are you saying?
LambiaseYou have one more shot at the final straight. You have full battery.
Chequered flag
LambiaseFail 84.
LambiaseMax, for info you’ve been given a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision, I believe at turn five, which drops you to P10 at the moment.

“No risk, no push”: 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Happier times soon followed. By the second half of 2025 Red Bull were competitive again and Verstappen’s win in Baku – on a dire day for McLaren – gave him real hope of retaining his title. Lambiase referenced one of Verstappen’s favourite simracing quips as they basked in the taste of victory again:

Lap: 51/51 VER: 1’44.556
LambiaseOkay Max, final lap. Mode seven.
LambiaseNo risk, no push.
Verstappen[Laughs]
LambiaseAnother great drive Max. Fabulous work, mate.

“We’ll go aggressive”: 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix

Although Verstappen fell narrowly short in his championship bid, he produced several memorable drives along the way, including his remarkable run to the podium after starting from the pit lane in Brazil:

Lap: 54/71 VER: 1’17.514
LambiaseMax, 18 laps remaining. What’s the state of the tyres, please? If we need to…
VerstappenNot ideal.
LambiaseYeah.
VerstappenYou need to do something, we can risk it or not, I don’t know.
LambiaseYeah, understood. We’re looking.
LambiaseOkay Max, box and pit confirm. Box, pit confirm, we’ll go aggressive. Strat 12 in pit lane.

Lap: 63/71 VER: 1’13.401
LambiaseGood job mate. Round the outside, round the inside.
LambiaseAntonelli pace, 13.9.
LambiaseDoes not have DRS behind, Max. Gap to Antonelli 2.4, his pace 13.6.

“He just pulled over”: 2025 Qatar Grand Prix

However a poor choice of words by Lambiase in Qatar that year had unfortunate consequences. When Andrea Kimi Antonelli went off and Norris gained a position from him, Lambiase suggested the Mercedes driver had done so deliberately.

Formula One Management played this clip on the world feed but not the footage which plainly showed Antonelli had made a mistake. Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko repeated Lambiase’s claim, and although the team later issued a retraction, the damage was done, and Antonelli suffered vile abuse on social media.

LambiaseNot sure what happened to Antonelli, Max, looks like he just pulled over and let Norris through.

“I appreciate it’s difficult”: 2026 Japanese Grand Prix

Verstappen and Lambiase enjoyed more wins than anyone else last year even though the championship eluded them. But the new season has not begun well for them and Verstappen is plainly frustrated and dissatisfied with F1’s new regulations.

In their most recent race, Lambiase attempted to help Verstappen find a way past Pierre Gasly for a lowly seventh place, but to no avail, as the quirks of F1’s new power units allowed his rival to ‘yo-yo’ back ahead of him.

While Lambiase has already made his future decision, it remains to be seen how long Verstappen wishes to continue with this type of racing.

Lap: 43/53 VER: 1’34.147
LambiaseYeah the Alpine is fast as well.
LambiaseI think you’ve got two or three tenths on him, but I appreciate it’s difficult to overtake.
VerstappenEasy to say mate when you’re on the pit wall. It doesn’t help that much.
Lap: 46/53 VER: 1’33.911
VerstappenYeah, I can’t get out of that final chicane. He has so much more traction.
Lap: 47/53 VER: 1’33.886
LambiaseRecommendation now is to press and hold boost. All the way out of turn 14, when you’re close enough.
Lap: 49/53 VER: 1’35.043
LambiaseVerstappen passes Gasly at exit of 130R
Okay, risk is you get overtaken here, but at least we know it’s possible, and we can think about strategy.
Verstappen waves as Gasly drives past him on the pit straight
LambiaseAlright, stick with him, we’ll do it on the last lap.
Lap: 52/53 VER: 1’33.973
LambiaseTwo more laps.
LambiaseVerstappen follows Gasly out of the chicane to start the last lap
Use boost if you’re close enough.
