OMC Power has entered the EV battery repurposing space to offer energy storage solutions across multiple segments, its co-founder and CEO Rohit Chandra said. The company will reuse retired electric vehicle batteries, sourced from stakeholder Honda Motor Co. Ltd, for home and commercial applications including uninterrupted power supply systems and hybrid rooftop solar installations. Honda, which acquired a minority stake in OMC Power in October 2025, will supply used batteries after three years of vehicle use for the next seven years.Chandra said repurposing EV batteries is a new area in India and the company may be among the first to undertake it with Honda. He added that concerns over the post-vehicle life of EV batteries make second-life applications viable. OMC Power will assemble the systems at its Manesar facility using Honda batteries integrated with its UPS solutions. Honda is expected to manufacture 6 million EV batteries annually, which would later become available for reuse. The company has completed pilot projects, including a solar rooftop installation with battery support at a school in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. OMC Power is also investing ₹4,000 crore to build a 1 GWp renewable energy portfolio by 2030, with 600 MWp targeted from rooftop solar projects in the healthcare sector, up from 75 MWp at present.
