Start, Circuit de Catalunya, 2025

The Circuit de Catalunya in Spain will share a Formula 1 calendar slot with Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit in a new deal announced today by the series.

The Spanish track has agreed to hold three further races after this year’s event, in 2028, 2030 and 2032. Its event will take place in rotation with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.

The Catalunya circuit held the Spanish Grand Prix from 1991 until last year. That event has moved to the new Madring in Madrid this year.

The track will hold the ninth round on the 2026 F1 calendar, now titled the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The same name will be used for the three new races announced today.

F1 announced last year the Belgian Grand Prix will only take place in alternate seasons. After this year’s race F1 will return in 2027, 2029 and 2031.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the promoters at the Spanish track “have invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for attendees at the race and for the city as a whole.”

The new street circuit in Madrid has a 10-year deal to host F1, running to 2035. Spain will therefore host two rounds of the championship in the four even-numbered seasons starting this year.

The Circuit de Catalunya is also a popular testing destination for F1 and held the first pre-season test for 2026 last month.

Pol Gibert, the CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL, said: “This renewal is the result of a strong relationship and close collaboration, and represents a very important step in further consolidating Catalonia as a key fixture on the international calendar.

“Formula 1 generates an economic impact of more than €300 million per edition, but above all it is a strategic event that helps project Catalonia worldwide as a country capable of hosting top-level sporting competitions.”
