Road safety month: Dehradun rolls out city-wide safety campaign

Moving beyond routine enforcement, Dehradun’s Regional Transport Office (Enforcement and Road Safety) launched an intensive, city-wide road safety campaign under National Road Safety Month (Jan 16–Feb 14), aiming to change driving behaviour rather than merely penalise violations.“As part of the drive, large awareness banners were installed across major roads. The messages highlight key violations such as drunk driving, riding without helmets, triple riding, failure to wear seat belts, red-light jumping and juvenile driving. The campaign also draws attention to lesser-addressed offences like vehicle overloading and failure to give way to ambulances,” said Anita Chamola, RTO enforcement and road safety.Officials said speed radar guns are being used to check overspeeding. A special initiative titled ‘Responsible Parents, Responsible Mother’ recognises women riders who wear helmets and ensure children above four years also follow safety norms.

Schools have been engaged through drawing, poster and slogan competitions, with selected entries displayed at public places to spread road safety awareness. RTO officials said meetings have been held with drivers, conductors, transport unions and other stakeholders.
