  • Honda’s new 0 Series platform launches this year, with a new software experience, an AI assistant and a Honda-developed electrical architecture.
  • The Acura RSX and Honda 0 Series SUV will launch in 2026 as scheduled, but the Saloon has been pushed to 2027.
  • Honda is late to the game on EVs, so the company has to get these cars right.

The Honda 0 Series Saloon has been delayed until 2027, the company confirmed to InsideEVs on Wednesday.

Honda initially said that it would launch three models on its new “0 Series” platform this year: The Acura RSX, the Honda 0 Series SUV and the Honda 0 Series Saloon. Two of those are on track. But following a year of regulatory changes, tariffs and tax credit rollbacks, Honda pushed out the timeline a bit.

The RSX will arrive first, in the “second half of 2026,” American Honda Assistant Vice President of Communications Jessica Fini told reporters. Then the Honda 0 Series SUV will arrive later in 2026, with the 0 Series saloon “pushed into ’27,” she confirmed.

The 2027 Acura RSX will be the first 0 Series model to arrive, sometime in the second half of this year. Acura has so far only said that it will have dual-motor all-wheel-drive, a 0-60 time of around 4 seconds, over 300 miles of range and double-wishbone front suspension.

A spokesperson said that Honda had shared news of this delay with reporters during the Japan Mobility Show, but the news has not been circulated widely. Honda’s landing page for the 0 Series still says that “production models” of the SUV and Saloon will arrive in 2026, so the company has not really publicized this delay.

It’s hard to blame Honda. The company will be among the last automakers to launch its own home-grown, long-range EV in the U.S., and has had a few false starts on the road to electrification, including the already-axed Acura ZDX. But Honda buyers are clearly open to EVsthe General Motors-built Prologue sells well, and a model designed by Honda itself should be an even better fit for its customers.

The Honda 0 SUV will likely be the most important and popular 0 Series model, targeting the heart of the compact crossover segment.

For now, though, there’s little information to go off of. We know that the 0 Series platform will be 800-volt capable, but it doesn’t sound like early vehicles will use 800-volt architectures.

We know they will have an all-new software interface, Asimo OS, with a new AI assistant. But Honda has so far struggled with in-car software, and has not shown much about how Asimo will work, or what it will be capable of. It’s far too early to know whether it’ll launch with the right price and positioning to succeed in today’s challenging EV environment.

Plus, most automakers have struggled with bugs, quality issues and design shortcomings with their first real EV projects. Honda has a reputation for building highly reliable cars, so I’m interested to see if the company can avoid the teething issues we’ve seen almost every competitor experience. If a slight delay helps Honda avoid that, all the better.

Frankly, it may also be smart to focus on the SUVs first. An electric sedan is a long-shot in the best of times. Launching the wild-shaped Saloon into 2026’s uncertain EV market could be too risky, and there may be a bit more of a market for crossovers. Plus, most companies will need to make running changes or issue recalls on brand-new platforms, and polishing one product before launching the next is a smart approach. By late 2026 or early 2027, consumers may be less tolerant of bugs and growing pains, and will want the Saloon to arrive fully baked.

I trust that Honda knows this. But this news lands as another in a long series of delays, revisions and reversals to Honda’s EV plans. I’m hopeful that these are thoughtful adjustments by a company that recognizes the scale of this challenge. But after years of overpromising and under-delivering, Honda needs to present something real in 2026. It may not be the Saloon, but I hope it’s something good.
