Lando Norris scored his seventh grand prix victory of the year in the Brazilian Grand Prix to increase his championship lead.
He extended his lead over team mate Oscar Piastri to 24 points after the other McLaren driver was penalised 10 seconds for a collision with Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Max Verstappen minimised the damage to his championship chances by recovering from the pit lane to finish third. Using a set of fresh soft tyres he saved after his Q1 elimination yesterday, Verstappen attacked the Mercedes drivers in the final stint. He managed to pass George Russell but Antonelli clung on to take second.
Piastri fell to fifth place after serving his penalty for a collision at an early Safety Car restart. He dived down the inside of Antonelli at the Senna S and the pair made contact, firing the Mercedes into Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, sending it into retirement.
Antonelli continued and claimed the second step on the podium after resisting several laps of pressure from Verstappen as the Red Bull driver drew within DRS range. Piastri also closed on Russell at the end but was unable to pass the Mercedes.
Oliver Bearman claimed sixth place while Liam Lawson gambled on a one-stop strategy to claim seventh. He crossed the line with seven cars within a little more than three seconds of him. His team mate Isack Hadjar took eighth, while Nico Hulkenberg and Pierre Gasly completed the points-scorers.
There were no points for Ferrari on a tough day for the team. While Leclerc retired early on, Lewis Hamilton tangled with Franco Colapinto at the end of lap one and received a penalty. He also sustained floor damage in the collision and later retired.
While Verstappen dazzled with his recovery drive, his team mate endured a grim race. Yuki Tsunoda knocked Lance Stroll into a spin early on, earning a 10-second time penalty. Red Bull then failed to serve it correctly when he pitted, earning him another, which left him last at the flag.
