Start, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, 2025

Fernando Alonso complained the FIA failed to take any action against drivers who cut the first corner at the start of the Mexican Grand Prix.

Five drivers left the track at turn one and rejoined after turn two. Alonso claimed some of them gained several places over drivers like him who did not go off.

The Aston Martin driver said he made a good start off the line. “We made up some places, we were aggressive into turn one and everything was looking good,” he told the official Formula 1 channel.

“But I think a couple of cars went just straight in turn two and three and then they rejoined like three or four cars in front of me. So it’s a little bit unfair, I would say.

“It’s the second time in a row that on the first lap in the first corner, the FIA is looking to the other side. So, lesson learned.”

Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Carlos Sainz Jnr and Liam Lawson all cut the corner at the start. Oscar Piastri also went off at the exit of turn one but returned before turn two.

Alonso immediately alerted his race engineer Andrew Vizard to what had happened on his radio. “I had a good start, in front of Sainz and some other people, they missed [turn] two and they are three cars in front,” he said.

“It’s very unfair I’m in this position after making the corners, so let’s do something,” he added. “I think it’s three or four cars.”

“We have seen it, we are feeding it back,” Vizard told him. “But we know that they don’t understand the consequence.”
