The Slate truck will be able to charge at Tesla Superchargers, the startup announced on Tuesday.
And, since it comes from the factory with the Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, owners will be able to plug in without a dongle. What’s more, the Slate’s NACS port is situated at the driver’s side rear of the truck—just like in a Tesla—so drivers will be able to park normally. Slate is among the latest in a long line of automakers that have adopted the NACS port and struck deals for access to the Supercharger network, the most widespread and reliable fast-charging provider in the U.S. Superchargers used to be exclusive to Tesla owners, but the company has gradually opened a large portion of them up to drivers of other vehicles.
With 120 kW charging and a base range of 150 miles (upgradeable to 240), the Slate is not exactly poised to be a road-tripping champion. So it’s tough to say how often owners will hit up Superchargers or other fast-charging stations. It’s more of an around-town vehicle that I’d imagine most people will charge at home.
Still, access to Supercharger should make owning a Slate a bit more hassle-free. Because more charging options are always better.
