Technology giant Apple has purchased the live broadcasting rights to Formula 1 in the United States.
Formula One Management announced it has agreed an exclusive five-year deal under which the series will be broadcast on Apple TV and promoted across other Apple channels.
The new deal means F1 fans in the USA will only be able to watch F1 TV Premium through an Apple subscription.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali described the announcement as the beginning of “an incredibly exciting partnership.”
“We have a shared vision to bring this amazing sport to our fans in the US and entice new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content, and a year-round approach to keep them hooked,” he added.
Apple’s senior vice president of services Eddy Cue said the broadcaster will deliver “premium and innovative fan-first coverage to our customers in a way that only Apple can.”
As part of the deal, Apple will show practice sessions and an unspecified number of races “for free” on the Apple TV app.

F1 claims the deal will allow it to reach a young and diverse target audience which uses Apple products. “The 2025 Global F1 Fan Survey found that 47% of new US Formula 1 fans, who have been following the sport for five years or less, are aged 18-24 and over half are female,” it said, “underlining the partnership’s huge potential to expand the sport’s younger and more diverse audience.”
F1 collaborated with Apple on the official Formula 1 movie which opened in cinemas earlier this year. The film, which stars Brad Pitt, will arrive on their video streaming platform in December. F1 claims it has generated almost $630 million (£469m) in revenue.
The deal marks the first change in US F1 broadcaster since current rightsholder ESPN replaced NBC in 2018. “We’re incredibly proud of what we and Formula 1 accomplished together in the United States and look forward to a strong finish in this final season,” said the broadcaster in a statement. “We wish F1 well in the future.”
