Isack Hadjar was furious with himself for the second qualifying session in a row after taking eighth on the grid for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Racing Bulls driver abandoned his final lap in Q3 after running wide at turn eight. He was visibly livid, repeatedly pounding his steering wheel in frustration
“Look after your car, please,” his race engineer Pierre Hamelin told him as he returned to the pits. “Look after your car. I know you’re frustrated.”
Hadjar told his engineer he was at a loss to explain what went wrong on his final lap. “I don’t understand, honestly, the double lock-up and the snap on the corner, I’ve never had this,” he said. “I really don’t understand. It makes absolutely no sense.”
“Fuck’s sake, man, that was a good lap – I mean, that was a good start of the lap,” he added. “I’m so pissed [off].”
Hamelin told his driver: “we can’t do any faster, we reached a bit of a peak there.”
“I’m sorry, it’s all very tight and it’s a shame,” he added. “But [for] first time in Singapore, not too bad. Still a lot to look forward tomorrow and best of the midfield.”
Afterwards Hadjar said he was especially frustrated by his performance in Q3 as he had managed to save two fresh sets of soft tyres for the final stage of qualifying.

“It’s such a shame,” he told the official Formula 1 channel. “It’s the first time we go into quali and we have managed to save two sets for Q3, just like the top teams.
“I’m a bit [pissed off] because I didn’t make the most of that final lap. I was way up on my time and I thought there was something special to achieve today and in the end it’s just an average result. So it’s a bit disappointing.”
It is the second event in a row Hadjar has been visibly furious with himself for falling short in qualifying. He launched into a tirade at himself in Baku after making a mistake near the end of his final lap in Q3.
