  • Mercedes shows a shadowy teaser of the upcoming C-Class With EQ Technology.
  • The GLC EQ’s sedan equivalent will be fully revealed sometime next year.
  • It will be a direct rival to the BMW i3, which will also be shown in 2026.

Just as Mercedes-Benz unveiled its fully electric GLC, it also teased its sedan counterpart, the upcoming C-Class EV. The shadowy teaser shows a sleek sedan with a face very similar to the GLC’s, complete with the same illuminated shield grille and daytime running light signature.

The electric C-Class will share the 800-volt MB.EA platform (and likely the same 94-kilowatt-hour battery) with the GLC EV. However, because it’s a lighter, more aerodynamic car, it will have more range and better performance.

The GLC 400 4Matic EQ, which will be the top-of-the-range offering below any AMG-badged models, is expected to get a WLTP range rating of 443 miles (713 kilometers). The more efficient C-Class EQ should push that closer to 500 miles and possibly even beyond that in its most efficient single-motor guise with the smallest wheels.

Some other features that will trickle down from the GLC EQ include rear-axle steering (the GLC’s wheels can turn up to 4.5 degrees), adjustable air suspension and the huge 39.1-inch (99.3-centimeter) screen that spans the width of the dashboard running Mercedes’ new AI-powered MB.OS system, which I’ve already tried in the CLA EV.

Mercedes-AMG will surely do its own versions of the C-Class EV to compete with the multiple M-badged BMW i3 variants that we expect to see. There may even be full-blown proper AMG versions complete with a widebody kit and ludicrous power output to match the upcoming electric BMW M3, which is getting up to four electric motors and possibly over 1,000 horsepower in top guise.

In the teaser image, Mercedes obscures most of the front of the vehicle. The light-up grille is prominently shown, and it’s slightly different from the one on the GLC, featuring four slats instead of three. The headlights have a similar teardrop design and the same Mercedes star pattern LED DRLs, complemented by illuminated brows.

More On This

Mercedes does shine a bit of light on the rear section of the vehicle, revealing broad and muscular flanks and a more traditional sedan shape. The manufacturer has drawn criticism for the jellybean design of its EQ models, which is why it’s now making them look a lot more traditional.

One thing’s very clear from this teaser, though: the electric C-Class looks nothing like the current combustion model, the W206, which is one of the best-looking cars in Mercedes’ current lineup. The EV looks taller and a bit more upright and not quite as sleek and aerodynamic as the W206, which I recently sampled in C63s guise and enjoyed a lot more than the internet said I should have.

We don’t know when Mercedes plans to lift the veil off the C-Class with EQ technology, but it will probably be sometime next year, which is also when BMW plans to unveil its electric contender in the segment. Since the upcoming BMW i3 is expected to also receive a load-lugging Touring body, there is a strong chance Mercedes will make a C-Class EQ wagon too.
