Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility Limited, manufacturer of Joy e-bike and Joy e-rik, has entered into a partnership with Battery Smart, a battery-swapping network in India.

Battery-as-a-Service model

Under the agreement, Battery Smart will establish battery-swapping infrastructure at all Joy e-bike dealerships. The collaboration will enable a “battery-as-a-service” model where customers can purchase Joy e-bikes without batteries, reducing upfront costs by 20 to 30 per cent. Users will then be able to rent swappable batteries on a pay-as-you-use basis.Dealers and distributors will also have the option to install swapping stations at their outlets, creating an additional revenue stream while expanding Battery Smart’s network.

Rollout plan

The integration of Battery Smart’s technology will begin with Joy e-bike models such as Globe and Gen Next, with more models under development. Customers will be able to access swaps at Battery Smart’s existing stations in cities including Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. A nationwide rollout is scheduled to begin in January 2026.Yatin Gupte, Chairman and Managing Director, Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility, said, “By decoupling the battery from the vehicle, we are tackling the two biggest barriers to EV adoption, i.e., high cost and range anxiety. This model will make Joy e-bikes more affordable while giving customers the freedom to travel farther and swap batteries effortlessly.”The initiative also marks Battery Smart’s first consumer-focused pilot project, which the company said will cater to both individual buyers and the business-to-business market.
