McLaren future cars auction

McLaren will offer three of its racing cars across multiple series to the highest bidder during a unique auction ahead of this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

McLaren currently compete in both F1 and IndyCar and will enter into the World Endurance Championship’s hypercar class from the 2027 season with an as-yet-unnamed LMDh car.

The team are celebrating their return to race in all three of the ‘triple crown’ motorsport events of the Monaco Grand Prix, Le Mans 24 Hours and Indianapolis 500 by offering one of each of their three race cars that will be raced over the next two years to the highest bidder. The winner will receive McLaren’s 2026 F1 car, 2026 IndyCar and 2027 WEC hypercar after the end of their respective seasons.

The auction will be held by RM Sotheby’s – an auction house with extensive experience with classic race cars – in Abu Dhabi on the Friday of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“This auction is an extraordinary opportunity to own a piece of racing history and bid for a car that has competed on track before its official launch,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.

“The triple crown is a huge part of our heritage and we are determined to claim it once again as we prepare for our 2027 entry into the World Endurance Championship. Not only that, these incredible cars will come with unprecedented VIP access to the team and action on track.”

McLaren are the only racing team in the world to have claimed victory in all three races that make up the triple crown. They first won the Indy 500 in 1976 through driver Johnny Rutherford, before next capturing the Monaco Grand Prix with Alain Prost in the infamously rain-shortened race in 1984. McLaren first entered into the Le Mans 24 Hours with a factory entry in 1995 with their McLaren F1 GTR, driven by Yannick Dalmas, JJ Lehto and Masanori Sekiya.

The team currently holds a commanding lead in the constructors’ championship in Formula 1 with both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the top positions in the drivers’ standings.
