Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari, Shanghai International Circuit, 2025

Ferrari has extended the contract of its team principal, Frederic Vasseur, after agreeing a new “multiple-year” deal.

The 57-year-old joined the team at the start of the 2023 season. Last year he brought the team within 14 points of winning the constructors’ championship and pulled off a coup by signing Lewis Hamilton to join the team from Mercedes.

The team has endured a disappointing start to 2025 as it has so far failed to replicate its race-winning form of last season, aside from Hamilton’s surprise victory in the sprint race at Shanghai. That prompted some speculation in Italian publications that Ferrari’s upper management was planning to replace Vasseur. His predecessor Mattia Binotto lasted less than four years in the job.

Ferrari’s announcement of a new contract for Vasseur puts an end to doubt over his future. The team’s CEO Benedetto Vigna said the decision “reflects our trust in Fred’s leadership — a trust rooted in shared ambition, mutual expectations and clear responsibility.”

Vasseur, who strongly attacked articles questioning his future at the team last month, said he is “grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me.” He described his new deal to remain at the team as “a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver.”

“Over the past 30 months we’ve laid strong foundations and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. We know what’s expected and we’re all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.”

Vasseur joined the team from Sauber at the beginning of 2023. That year Ferrari was the only team to beat Red Bull to victory, in Singapore, and it scored five victories with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr, including a popular victory for the former at their home race at Monza.
