Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, Spa-Francorchamps, 2025

Lewis Hamilton has condemned the lack of action from countries in reaction to the widespread starvation in Gaza.

“It’s hard to find the words to express the total devastation I feel seeing what is happening in Gaza,” wrote Hamilton in a social media post to his 40 million followers.

“Children are starving while humanitarian organisations are unable to safely deliver […] food, clean water, medical supplies – the most basic human needs. There is no justification for this.”

The latest escalation in decades of hostility between Gaza’s Palestinian population and neighbouring Israel began in October 2023. Fighters from Gaza attacked civilians in Israel, killing around 1,200 and taking some 250 more hostage.

Israel subsequently invaded Gaza, leading to the deaths of a further 52,000 people. The British Red Cross estimated 470,000 people, over one-fifth of Gaza’s population, are at risk of starvation as Israel refuses to allow sufficient aid supplies into the territory.

Hamilton called on other countries to put pressure on Israel. “The silence and lack of action from the international community will be judged by future generations,” he said.

“Every day that passes without allowing aid to safely reach Palestinians, and without a ceasefire, more lives are lost. Those in power must do everything they can to end this suffering, and they must do it now.”

He also shared a link to a post showing a photograph of an extremely malnourished Gaza child.

This is not the first time Hamilton has spoken out on the situation in Gaza. Last year, during the early stages of the conflict, he called for a ceasefire and return of the hostages. Around 50 have still not been accounted for.

Hamilton met with British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer last month as part of a roundtable involving the Ferrari driver’s Mission 44 initiative to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics to children from under-represented backgrounds.
