Norris wins the Austrian Grand Prix!

L70 Norris starts the final lap having lapped Bortoleto.

L69 Penultimate lap but Norris is closing on the battling Alonso and Bortoleto. He has Tsunoda to pass first and Piastri 1.5s behind.

L66 Norris still 1.9s ahead. McLaren told him he has some front wing damage on his car.

L62 Norris lowers his lap times to a 1’08.2, Piastri chips a tenth off him. The gap is 1.7s.

L59 Piastri on a quick lap, now within three seconds of Norris, 11 laps to go.

L54 Piastri doesn’t try to run his tyres any longer, he comes out 3.3s behind Norris but worse he’s got Tsunoda and Colapinto ahead of him – and the Alpine driver puts him on the grass!

L52 Norris pits. He was two-and-a-half seconds ahead of Piastri.

L51 Hamilton pits. He said he did not want to pit.

A couple of mistakes creeping in. Piastri goes wide at turn one, Hamilton does the same at turn three.

L41 Piastri took a second out of Norris on that lap, the gap is now down to 3s.

L39 Norris’s lead is down to 4.6 seconds over Piastri. Leclerc is another 14s behind.

Tsunoda has been given a 10-second time penalty for colliding with Colapinto.

The stewards take no action against Tsunoda for his collision with Stroll.

Piastri’s race engineer Tom Stallard warns him not to get carried away fighting Norris: “The manoeuvre in turn four with the front lock-up was too marginal. We can’t do that again.”

Leclerc and Hamilton pit. Lawson, third behind the McLarens, leads those who are yet to come in.

Piastri has bought himself a four-lap tyre advantage but he’s six seconds behind Norris now.

L24 Piastri pits. Not a particularly quick stop for him either, he was stationary for 3.4s according to FOM.

Piastri basically hoping for a Safety Car here – he’s over a second slower than Norris at the moment.

L22 Piastri doesn’t pit on the next lap, he’s trying to extend the stint.

L21 Norris pits – is he thinking Piastri won’t want to take those tyres much further? It’s not McLaren’s best stop, he loses 3.1s stationary.

L20 Piastri has a late look at Norris at turn four and locks up, they narrowly avoid contact.

L19 Russell pits.

Tsunoda has hit Stroll at turn 15, both continue. The stewards have noted it.

L16 Bozzi tells Leclerc “we need li-co [lift and coast] all corners, every lap.” They had to do a lot of lift and coast in Spain too. Meanwhile Albon retires so it’s a terrible day for Williams.

L15 Piastri closes on Norris on the pit straight but appeared to back out of passing him at the first DRS zone. He chases him through the next two but can’t get by.

No action over the Colapinto-Bearman incident. Bearman has since passed Colapinto.

L14 Norris has pulled eight tenths of a second away from Piastri. Albon pits.

Gasly pits to get rid of his softs.

L11 Piastri within half a second of Norris and passes him approaching turn three. Norris attacks back and repasses him at turn four.

Race control have noted an incident where Colapinto appeared to force Bearman off at the exit of turn three.

Piastri has a look at Norris at turn four.

Norris bolts, Piastri gives chase. The Ferrari pair are next, followed by Russell and the sift soft-shod driver which is Pierre Gasly. Russell attacking Hamilton without success.

L3 Safety Car coming in at the end of this lap.

Antonelli: “Sorry about that. I locked the rear.”

Verstappen: “I’m out. I got hit.”

The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix is go! Norris keeps the lead, Piastri passes Leclerc for second and immediately attacks Norris. Antonelli takes Verstappen out!

The drivers are forming up on the grid again ready for the start.

Alonso says his seat is “maybe 200 degrees”. He didn’t specify Celsius or Fahrenheit, though.

Williams confirm to Sainz his race is over before it’s even begun.

A new formation lap will begin at 3:15pm local time. The race distance is reduced by one lap. Williams are furiously trying to both move Sainz’s car and extinguish its still-smouldering brakes.

Sainz has pulled into the pits but now his rear brakes are ablaze.

The cars have left the grid to begin their formation lap but Carlos Sainz Jnr is stuck on the grid in first gear. The car has finally been started but the race has been aborted.

All drivers will start the race on the medium tyre compound except for Gasly, Hadjar, Colapinto, Bearman and Hulkenberg on softs.

No investigation on Piastri, say race control.

The track temperature is already 50C which is among the hottest seen all weekend and it may well rise further after the start.

Oscar Piastri has been noted for potentially failing to adhere to the delta time during his reconnaissance lap.

The FIA has announced the final starting grid for the Austrian Grand Prix with no changes.

The drivers are completing their reconnaissance laps before the start of the race.

We’re one hour away from the start of the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix.
