7,000 vehicles fined in three weeks for illegal parking in Gurgaon

Traffic police identified 7,035 vehicles parked in the wrong spots between Oct 1 and Oct 23 and issued challans under the Motor Vehicles Act. Fines amounting to ₹51.1 lakh were imposed.This year, traffic police have issued challans to 1.50 lakh traffic violators for wrong parking till Oct 23.

Last year, the traffic cops challaned 1,57,298 violators in the city.

Amid the ongoing festival season, the traffic police initiated a special drive for wrong parking across the district to ensure smooth and organised traffic movement.

According to the police, the first-time violator is fined ₹500 and the second-time offender is fined ₹1,500, following which the vehicle can be impounded in case of repeated offences. The drive aimed at promoting “disciplined road behaviour”. Traffic police spokesperson Vikas Verma (ASI) said, “Our objective is to ensure organised and smooth traffic flow across Gurgaon. Challans were issued to the violators who were found blocking the roads and interrupting the smooth flow of the traffic. Wrong parking can pose a major risk to precious lives.” Verma added, “The traffic police also conduct special awareness campaigns to educate residents about traffic rules and the penalties for violations. Citizens are regularly informed about designated parking zones and are urged to avoid parking on roadsides or in restricted areas.
