Zomato, on Wednesday, rolled out a multi-city initiative to strengthen road safety among its delivery partners, combining mandatory responsible driving training with the distribution of more than 2,000 BIS-certified helmets as part of National Road Safety Month. The programme is designed to move beyond awareness to on-ground action, with structured sessions led by traffic police and certified professionals. The first phase was held in Delhi in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police and included a bike rally to promote responsible riding.“Their safety and well-being continue to be a top priority. Through this initiative, we aim to empower delivery partners with knowledge and practical road safety skills, enabling them to make better decisions and respond effectively in critical situations,” Aditya Mangla, Chief Executive Officer of Zomato. What does it include?

Under the initiative, delivery partners will undergo 90–120 minutes of training focused on navigating dense urban traffic, maintaining safe following distances and anticipating road risks. The sessions also cover the ‘Golden Hour’ protocol, emphasising basic first aid and emergency response steps that can improve survival chances after an accident.

Training programmes will be conducted at Traffic Training Parks in cities such as Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune to simulate real-world hazards in a controlled environment. Participants will also receive guidance on helmet maintenance, the use of BIS-certified chin straps and adherence to traffic regulations.

Zomato said it has made safety briefings mandatory before partners begin deliveries, with daily safety pledges and in-app alerts on weather and road conditions. The platform also offers a 24×7 SOS feature for rapid ambulance support, while all delivery partners are covered under comprehensive insurance.
