Allocation of stalls to automobile dealers for annual Vikramotsav trade fair set to commence from Feb 15 is nearing completion, driven largely by expectations of robust sales following a 50 percent exemption on lifetime motor vehicle tax for non-commercial vehicles.According to authorities, over 90 percent of automobile stalls were already booked. The layout for this year’s event, which runs until March 19, features a dedicated cluster of 163 stalls for auto segment, comprising 123 spaces for four-wheelers and 40 for two-wheelers, alongside 60 stalls designated for food and general trade.”Almost all automobile stalls were allotted, reflecting strong dealer sentiment. The 50 percent RTO tax exemption, applicable to vehicles registered in Ujjain during the fair, is a primary catalyst drawing both dealer participation and anticipated buyer interest,” said Abhilash Mishra, Ujjain municipal commissioner.Auto dealers and authorities are expecting higher vehicle sales this year following a 50 percent exemption on lifetime motor vehicle tax, prompting dealers to build inventories.
Transport department data showed that more than 36,000 vehicles were sold and registered at Ujjain RTO during last year’s fair period, of which about 28,000 were cars, while the remainder comprised two-wheelers and light commercial vehicles. Authorities said that the 40-day fair in 2025 generated revenue of nearly ₹186 crore, underlining the event’s growing importance for trade, tourism and local economic activity in Ujjain.
