- The Nissan Ariya might be one of the best deals on the used car market right now.
- The Japanese electric crossover has always been somewhat lukewarm compared to the competition.
- However, when a barely used Ariya is roughly half the price of a new one, it makes a lot more sense.
The Nissan Ariya has always flown under the radar. It’s Nissan’s first properly modern electric car after the aging Leaf, but it never quite managed to capture the public’s attention. It has a great interior and fine road manners, but its driving range and high starting price were a little off-putting.
As a result, the Ariya has had limited sales success in the United States. And it’s imported from Japan, so Nissan has decided to discontinue it for the 2026 model year amid a tariff hit. If you were planning on getting one in the near future, you need to look for other options.

However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel–as long as you’re comfortable with getting a used EV. That’s because the Ariya might be one of the best deals on the used car market right now.
A new 2025 Nissan Ariya starts from $41,265. That kind of money gets you an entry-level model with 19-inch wheels, a front-mounted electric motor with 214 horsepower, and a 63-kilowatt-hour battery that offers an EPA-rated 216 miles of driving. The upper trims fare better with an 87-kWh battery that offers as much as 289 miles of range, depending on the trim level. In other words, decent, but not outstanding in any way.
A quick browse on Cars.com, however, revealed roughly 160 used Ariyas with clean titles and less than 10,000 miles on the odometer. The cheapest one, a base-spec model offered by a dealer in Ohio, is priced at a shockingly low $18,500. Granted, it includes the $4,000 used EV credit, which is going away tomorrow.
But even without it, the car costs $22,500. That’s almost half the price of a new one.
That’s not the whole story, though. Cars.com has a handy price history widget that shows how the seller has modified the price after listing a vehicle for sale. In the case of this particular car, which was put up for sale in the last week of June, the price has gone down four times, going from nearly $21,000 to what it is today.

And it’s not just this car. I’ve looked at dozens of used Ariyas, and most of them have had at least one price drop since being listed online. What’s more, if a fancier trim is what you’re looking for, there are several Ariyas out there in Platinum+ spec that go for less than $34,000.
That’s $20,000 less than a new one, which has dual-motor all-wheel drive, the larger battery, an EPA-rated 267 miles of driving range and plenty of niceties, including a Bose sound system and leather-wrapped climate-controlled seats.
EVs are known for their depreciation, but the Ariya is on par with the likes of the very expensive Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Compared to mainstream models, luxury cars usually go down in price a lot more, percentage-wise, when they hit the used market. In Nissan’s case, though, it might just be a case of wrong pricing, with the Ariya costing more than the competition, despite it not being up to par in the specs department.
