JBM Group has appointed Umashanker Gupta as Executive Vice President and Head – R&D (Electric Vehicles), where he will lead research and development initiatives for electric bus platforms.

In his new role, Gupta will focus on advancing EV architecture, system integration and scalable mobility solutions, with an emphasis on engineering-led innovation, modular design and data-driven product development.

Prior to this, Gupta served as General Manager and Head – R&D at Volvo Buses India. He also spent over two decades at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd, where he held multiple leadership roles, including Head – Vehicle Technology for trucks and buses.Earlier in his career, he worked with L&T Technology Services and Escorts Kubota Limited in design and engineering roles.With over two decades of experience in vehicle engineering and product development, Gupta’s appointment comes as JBM Group strengthens its electric mobility capabilities, particularly in the electric bus segment.
