The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday reported a landmark performance for the month of February 2026, with the industry achieving its “highest ever” sales for the month led by two-wheelers (2Ws), passenger vehicles (PVs) and three-wheelers (3Ws). According to the latest data released, the domestic automotive market saw double-digit growth across all major segments compared to the previous year. The 2W segment led the charge with a massive 35.2 per cent growth, totaling 18,71,406 units sold, when compared with 13,84,605 units in the same period last year.Within this category, scooters saw a significant jump of 42.3 per cent with 7,29,774 units, while motorcycles grew by 30.8 per cent with 10,96,537 units.During the month, PV sales reached 4,17,705 units, representing a 10.6 per cent increase over February 2025 where it stood at 3,77,689 units. While on the 3W front, it witnessed a strong 29.0 per cent growth, with 74,573 units sold as against 57,788 units in the same period in 2025. Passenger carriers within this segment grew by over 30 per cent with 60,013 units.PV data excludes certain luxury brands (BMW, Mercedes, JLR, Volvo) for which data was unavailable, according to SIAM.

Industry outlook

Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, attributed the performance to “positive sentiments” within the industry. However, he cautioned that while March is expected to benefit from festive drivers, the horizon is not entirely clear. The industry is currently monitoring the conflict in West Asia, which poses a potential threat to global supply chains.SIAM warned that these geopolitical developments could eventually impact both manufacturing processes and export capabilities. Industry would keep a close watch on evolving geopolitical developments, Menon stated, highlighting the delicate balance between strong domestic demand and external risks.
