As far as registrations are concerned, in 2024-25, a total of 13,82,102 vehicles were registered, while in 2023-24, the number was 13,19,406. As per the data, the highest number of registered vehicles were two-wheelers (including motorcycles and mopeds) at 11.06 lakh in 2024-25. Additionally, 77,867 motor cars, 74,426 e-rickshaws and 37,784 three-wheelers (passenger) were registered.According to the secretary, there was also an increase in registrations of heavy vehicles. “As many as 2,494 buses, 411 omni buses, 19,955 agricultural tractors and 14,514 commercial tractors were registered in 2024-25. Maxi cab registrations increased by 56per cent compared to the previous financial year,” Agrawal said.

The main sources of revenue for the department are registration and licence fees, permits, vehicle fines, trade tax, check posts, fees for preferred registration numbers, and e-challan through the e-detection system.
