Toyota Driver Isabella Robusto on Resetting After Setbacks and Maintaining a Focused Mindset – Toyota USA Newsroom

When Isabella Robusto was five years old racing go-karts side by side with her twin brother, she knew that it was an exhilarating experience that she didn’t want to end.

“From the beginning, it was competitive, intense, fun and everything I loved,” she says. “We worked our way up together through Bandoleros and Legend cars, learning the fundamentals and building race craft.”

Eventually the Fort Mills, South Carolina, native, who’s been with the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) program since 2022, advanced to Late Model Stocks, where the stakes rose and the competition grew fiercer.

“At 16, I joined the Toyota program, which opened the door to a whole new level,” Robusto says. “Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to race everything from GR Cup cars to GT4 Supras, Pro Late Models, and now the ARCA car. That variety has really shaped me into a more complete and adaptable driver, and I’ve loved every step of the way.”

Recalibrating After Roadblocks

Robusto has encountered her share of roadblocks on her ascent through the racing ranks. She’s consistently demonstrated her ability to navigate these challenges and power through them.

“One defining moment was learning how to reset after setbacks — whether that’s a mechanical issue or a tough race weekend,” she says. “In racing, you must have a short memory and a long focus. That mindset of moving forward with purpose is something I’m carrying into 2026, no matter what challenges come my way.”

Unwavering Tunnel Vision

With the season underway, Robusto is staying focused.

“My main goal this season is consistency; executing clean, smart races; and making every lap count,” she says. “I’m focusing heavily on mental conditioning and visualization while also keeping my fitness dialed in with cardio and reaction training to stay sharp in the car. I feel like the preparation off-track is just as critical as performance on-track.”

So far, that’s been paying off. Robusto kept her momentum going in September, earning another top-10 finish in the Toyota GR Cup North America at Barber Motorsports Park.

While she’s making strides on the track, she credits the unwavering support of those who’ve helped and inspired her to reach these milestones.

“I’ve been fortunate to have some incredible mentors, but my twin brother has probably pushed me more than anyone,” she says. “We’ve been racing side by side since day one, and that kind of competition builds you fast. Within TRD, I’ve learned a lot from the coaches and staff, especially about how to carry myself as a professional on and off the track.”

Additionally, she admires those who’ve paved the way for her success.

“I also look up to drivers who came through the TD2 path and made it to the top; their journeys show what’s possible with the right mindset and work ethic,” Robusto said.
