Telangana’s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy is yielding significant results, with the state reporting an increase in EV sales to 1.13 per cent in 2025, up from just 0.03 per cent in 2023, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Thursday. The government has provided ₹577 crore in tax exemptions to boost the adoption of electric mobility, according to a TNN report.

Highlighting the success of the policy, the minister said, “We have permitted 20,000 electric autos in Hyderabad, along with 10,000 LPG and 10,000 CNG autos. Another 25,000 retrofitted autos have also been cleared. We introduced this policy to prevent pollution levels like those in Delhi.”

In a major reform aimed at transparency and digital governance, Telangana has abolished all Regional Transport Authority (RTA) checkposts across the state.

“We have issued a GO to abolish all checkposts in Telangana from Wednesday. The decision was taken two months ago to make the system transparent and online. From now on, vehicle checks and services will be handled digitally,” Ponnam said.

The minister added that he had personally raised the issue with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the state cabinet, which approved the permanent shutdown of all checkposts.

Telangana has also integrated with the national vehicle registration system, Vahan, and the Sarathi platform for online driving licences is set to be rolled out soon.>
