McLaren have become the second team in Formula 1 history to win their 200th grand prix following their victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

They join Ferrari as the only teams to have taken a double century of race victories over the 1,139 rounds of the world championship to date.

Here’s how McLaren amassed their 200 wins since the first scored by team founder Bruce McLaren in 1968.

McLaren’s winning drivers

Bruce McLaren was the first of 22 different drivers to win a grand prix in a McLaren. The most successful driver for the team was Ayrton Senna, who took all bar six of his 41 career victories in their cars.

McLaren’s winning engines

McLaren scored their first wins with Ford-Cosworth power but first became a dominant force when they enlisted Porsche to build turbo engines for them in the eighties, funded by TAG. They enjoyed further success with Honda but have won most races with Mercedes, who powered Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton to world championship success in McLaren cars.

McLaren’s winning venues

Since winning their first race in Belgium, McLaren have enjoyed more success in two other countries: Their home race in Britain and F1’s most famous event in Monaco. Lando Norris scored their 16th wins in Monaco and Britain earlier this year.

It took until 1984 for McLaren to score their first victory in Monaco, but it opened the floodgates: That was their first of nine wins in the space of 10 years in the principality.

NB. USA includes Miami Grand Prix, United States Grand Prix West and Detroit Grand Prix; Germany includes Luxembourg Grand Prix and European Grand Prix; Britain includes European Grand Prix; Spain includes European Grand Prix

The only track on the current calendar McLaren has not won a race at is the Las Vegas Strip Circuit. They also did not win either of the previous races in the city at a different circuit.

McLaren’s winning seasons

Emerson Fittipaldi became the first driver to win the world championship in a McLaren in 1974. After James Hunt won the title with them in 1976, the team faded late in the seventies, and Ron Dennis led a takeover of the outfit with backing from Marlboro.

He returned the team to winning ways in the eighth, when they enjoyed their most successful period. Further wins and title followed in the nineties and noughties.

However after splitting from Mercedes and reuniting with Honda, McLaren fell into another fallow period. They eventually reunited with Mercedes, and in 2021 scored their first victory for nine years.
