Round-up: No ‘big surprises’ on Verstappen says Wolff, Bottas tipped for Cadillac and more
Welcome to Thursday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.
Comment of the day
This weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix is the third sprint event of the Formula 1 season and Craig is not convinced by FOM’s insistence fans love it:
They do really need to drop the format as it doesn’t contribute anything and they seem to know it (if they thought it was popular they’d be pushing to have it at every weekend).
The only worth I could think for the sprint format was to fill up a weekend’s schedule if they had few or no support races, but with a full compliment at Spa it’s just highlighting the pointlessness of the format. Craig
‘Mick Schumacher has already been informed he’s not on the team’s shortlist anymore, the same happening to Zhou Guanyu, who is managed by Lowdon’s company as well. According to American sources, the current poor state of US-China relationships would make it complicated for the Cadillac board and the American fans to accept a Chinese driver in the team, this shutting the doors to the former Sauber driver.’
‘Yesterday’s heavy rain sparked some fake news about damage to the circuit. Early this morning our team inspected the entire layout. While some sand and water had accumulated on parts of the track, it was promptly removed.’
‘As a result, the reported 2018 footprint has been revised to 228,793 tCO2e (equivalent tonnes of carbon dioxide), down from 256,551 tCO2e. This ensures that the reported emissions reductions reflect genuine progress compared to the baseline year, rather than improvements resulting solely from changes in accounting methods.’
