Round-up: McLaren ‘fully anticipate Norris and Piastri swapping paint again’, and more

In term of circuit racing Karting has the highest proportion of female competitors, the current UK #2 and arguably fastest UK shifter driver is female.

Historically I can list multiple female drivers who have success. It’s not ‘one’ driver. Mary Hix, Faye Peirson, Lotta Helberg, Sophie Kumpen, The Vixon, Sheila Van Damn’s team, Jeanette Peak, Lorraine Peck, Catherine Muller, Carolyon Hoy, Barbera Hepworth, Clair Bogan, Ann Thorpe etc… want me to go on? I can, for quite some time.

‘Superficial look at the situation’. We have had British, European and World Karting champions who were female.

Secondly, karting is it’s own thing. Arguably F1’s cultural annexation of karting has been the biggest impediment because I posit it has shifted demographic far younger and inflated costs because of said association. The stepping stone thing has largely been a disaster for karting and it was never originally this. So maybe karting doesn’t need fixing, maybe F1 needs to get its snotty nose out of the sport.

But this idea karting needs to be ‘fixed’ when historically it’s been leagues ahead of almost every other form of motorsport demonstrates a fundamental ignorance to karting, which is quite widespread throughout motorsport now. Get your own house in order before starting to accuse karting of needing ‘fixing’.
