  • Born on this day in 1909: David Murray, who started the very first world championship race at Silverstone in 1950 in a Maserati 4CLT. He retired with technical problems, as he did in his three other world championship race starts.
  • Born on this day in 1896: Philippe Etancelin, who shared victory in the 1934 Le Mans 24 Hours with Luigi Chinetti in an Alfa Romeo, and was part of the grid for the first world championship Formula 1 race in 1950.
