Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said his ministry will soon implement the automated and intelligent machine-aided construction (AIMC) technology to other national highway projects, a move aimed at transforming the development of national highways in the country.

“We have achieved success in the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway pilot project and soon we will implement this technology to other projects also,” Gadkari said while addressing the stakeholder consultation workshop held on Thursday on the AIMC technology.

“National Highways are our national assets, and we have put a lot of emphasis on enhancing their quality and safety. We have taken measures to fix contractors’ responsibility to enhance the quality of construction and also to improve transparency in our system,” Gadkari added.

According to a statement issued by the ministry of road transport and highways on Friday, minister Gadkari said that technology is a great enabler and adoption of automated and intelligent machine-aided construction is a step in the right direction.

The National Highways Authority organised the consultation workshop on AIMC to deliberate and provide suggestions to enhance the recently released draft policy for the adoption of this technology in national highways projects to enhance the national highway construction prowess.

“Based on evaluation of the efficacy of AIMC demonstrated in this project, along with feedback from the project stakeholders and considering the international guidelines and specifications, NHAI will undertake adoption of AIMC for the construction of a few more greenfield expressways and access-controlled corridor projects,” the ministry added.
