The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released its data for January 2025, revealing positive growth across all automotive segments in both domestic and export markets.

According to the report, the total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles in January 2025 stood at 25,46,643 units.

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said, “Passenger Vehicles posted their highest-ever January sales in 2025, reaching 3.99 lakh units, with a growth of 1.6% compared to January 2024. Three-wheelers grew by 7.7% year-on-year, with sales of 0.58 lakh units. Two-wheelers saw a 2.1% increase with sales of 15.26 lakh units. The recent Union Budget announcements prioritizing long-term economic growth, along with the personal income tax changes and RBI’s interest rate reduction, are expected to boost consumer confidence and drive further demand in the auto industry.”

Passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers recorded a year-on-year growth of 1.6% in January, with 3.99 lakh units sold compared to 3.93 lakh units in the same month last year. SIAM noted that the data includes figures from Tata Motors, which only provides quarterly data. Excluding Tata Motors, the industry registered sales of 3.51 lakh units in January 2025.

Three-wheeler sales

Domestic three-wheeler sales grew by 7.7% year-on-year, reaching 58,167 units in January 2025, up from 53,991 units in January 2024. On the export front, the segment recorded significant growth of 19.4%, with 23,859 units exported compared to 19,990 units last year.

Two-wheeler sales

The two-wheeler segment also saw positive momentum, with domestic sales rising 2.1% to 15,26,218 units in January 2025, compared to 14,95,183 units a year earlier. Exports surged by 46.2%, with 3,80,528 units shipped in January 2025, up from 2,60,308 units in the same period last year.

Quadricycle sales

The quadricycle segment recorded a steep decline of 97% in domestic sales, with just one unit sold in January 2025, compared to 33 units in January 2024. However, exports for the segment rose by 41.9%, with 528 units exported, compared to 372 units last year.
