Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the EV Zone at the exhibition held during the 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC GM) in New Delhi. The event, hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), is taking place from September 15 to 19, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam.The EV Zone, organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), is showcasing developments in electric mobility and sustainable technologies. The pavilion features 31 production-ready electric vehicles from 14 manufacturers including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, Mercedes-Benz, Kia India, EKA Mobility, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Suzuki Motorcycle India, Piaggio and Ather Energy.Piyush Goyal said sustainability was being positioned as a key pillar of growth in India, and added that standards were essential for a developing country. He noted that products designed and manufactured in India would soon be recognised globally for reliability, sustainability and quality. He also said standards play an important role in consumer protection, customer satisfaction and competitiveness.
Global participation
Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director of SIAM, said the automotive industry welcomed the government’s vision that ‘Design in India, Made in India’ products would gain global recognition.The IEC GM 2025 has brought together more than 2,000 experts from over 100 countries to discuss international electrotechnical standards. The exhibition covers electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics and IT manufacturing.SIAM stated that its participation supports India’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2070. Visitors to the EV Zone can also take a Digital Sustainability Pledge, with BIS committing to plant a sapling for every pledge.
