Lando Norris said he doesn’t feel as comfortable in his McLaren around Singapore as he did last year, when he won the race.
“It was a difficult day for me,” Norris told the official Formula 1 channel after practice. “I’m not feeling too great with the car.
“I’m missing all of the feelings that I had here last year so there’s plenty of things to work on. It was just a bad day.”
The McLaren driver ended practice almost half a second slower than his pace-setting team mate Oscar Piastri.
“Oscar’s quick, so I’ve got nothing to complain about,” Norris admitted. “I’m just not doing a very good job.”
Norris’s qualifying simulation run in second practice was compromised after he collided with Charles Leclerc in the pit lane. He was able to set a time on soft tyres at the end of the session. The stewards have summoned Norris and Leclerc to investigate whether an unsafe release by Ferrari caused the incident.
Championship leader Piastri was much happier with his start to practice after topping the times on Friday. However the two red flags caused by crashes in second practice severely reduced the amount of time available to teams for race simulation runs.

“I found my feet on the medium [tyre] at the end there and then the soft felt good,” said Piastri. “Obviously I’ve not had much representative race running but the car’s been in a good place.”
However Piastri said he is more concerned with ensuring his car is competitive over a single flying lap. “Here qualifying is a massive part of the weekend – it’s a massive part everywhere, but I think especially here, it’s one of the most important – so you’d rather qualify further up and deal with the unknown for the race than qualify further back but know exactly what’s gonna happen in the race because it’s not really going to help you.”
