Lando Norris completed a sweep of all three practice sessions at Zandvoort, lapping within a tenth of a second of the track record in the final hour before qualifying.

McLaren’s rivals had nothing for them in final practice. While Oscar Piastri lapped two tenths of a second off his team mate the next closest car, George Russell’s Mercedes, was almost nine tenths of a second slower.

Russell faces an investigation after the session for an incident between him and Fernando Alonso. The Mercedes driver appeared to be heading into the pits when Alonso closed on him at the exit of the final corner. Alonso moved to Russell’s right, but backed out as he was increasingly squeezed towards the barrier on the inside.

It was one of several traffic-related incidents around the compact circuit. Russell’s team mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli had to back off coming out of the final corner as he encountered Lance Stroll in the other Aston Martin who had backed off as he drew alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

Ferrari’s tough weekend continued as Charles Leclerc was unable to break into the top five with his final run. Lewis Hamilton had to abandon his final run on softs after running wide at the Hugenholzbocht.

Former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jnr took advantage, putting his Williams in a strong fourth place, a hundredth of a second faster than Max Verstappen’s Red Bull. The second Williams of Alexander Albon took seventh.

Alonso’s delay behind Russell left him 10th on the times sheet, a tenth of a second slower than Stroll. The two Aston Martins were separated by Isack Hadjar who had a new power unit in his Racing Bulls after yesterday’s failure.

Antonelli’s delay left him only 17th overall, followed by Esteban Ocon and the Alpine drivers. The latter pair also managed to get in each other’s way at the final corner, Franco Colapinto briefly delaying Pierre Gasly.
