UP transport minister Dayashankar Singh said pure electric vehicles purchased between Oct 14, 2025 and Oct 13, 2027 in the state will get 100 per cent exemption from registration fees under the UP Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Policy-2022. A notification regarding the same was issued on Nov 5, said the minister.Pure electric vehicles purchased and registered during the said period are exempted from applicable taxes. Pure electric vehicles operate solely on electricity stored in batteries and have no fuel tank, combustion engine, or exhaust system. The exemption aims to encourage people to buy electric vehicles and curb pollution caused by fossil-fuel vehicles.UP Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022 was promulgated to encourage purchase of electric vehicles to maintain a sustainable and clean mobility system by the Uttar Pradesh Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department on Oct 14, 2022.

The minister said the policy was amended at a meeting of the high-level committee authorised to do so. As a result of the amendment, 100 per cent exemption in registration fees and road tax and a subsidy incentive scheme have been established for pure electric vehicles purchased and registered in UP in the fourth and fifth years of the policy.
