The Nashik Regional Transport Office registered 3,679 vehicles during Diwali between Oct 17 and 24, representing a marginal 2 per cent increase compared to last year’s registration of 3,597 vehicles between Oct 28 and Nov 3.
Senior officials of the Nashik RTO said that although vehicle purchases are made during Diwali, the number has been low in the context of annual registrations. They noted that the difference between this year’s and last year’s Diwali registrations is less than 100, indicating no significant trend. Officials added that this year’s Diwali celebration was as good as the previous one.
Annually, close to 100,000 vehicles are registered with the Nashik RTO, making Diwali registrations only 3-4 per cent of the total yearly registrations.
In terms of vehicle types, two-wheelers saw an increase from 2,090 last Diwali to 2,145 this year. However, car registrations declined from 1,080 last year to 1,051 this year. Agricultural tractor registrations rose by more than 43 per cent, with 131 registered this Diwali compared to 91 last year.
Ravi Godse, an entrepreneur from the Nashik Road area, said, “Cars, bikes, or other such big items are often purchased during special occasions. We have many occasions throughout the year. I too purchased my first car during Diwali. The advantage of festive buying is the offers dealers come up with.”
