Modi flags EVs, two-wheelers and CNG mobility as key areas for India–Russia cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday identified India’s strengths in affordable and efficient EVs, two-wheelers and CNG mobility solutions as important areas for deepening cooperation with Russia, during his remarks at the India–Russia Business Forum in New Delhi.Outlining sector-specific areas for collaboration, Modi said India’s EV ecosystem, two-wheeler manufacturing capabilities and CNG mobility technologies are globally competitive and could support joint efforts in mobility solutions. He said such cooperation could “not only meet our needs but also global” requirements.President Vladimir Putin also underlined the broader economic potential between the two countries, saying the forum was created to showcase the “multifaceted opportunities” of the partnership.Putin emphasised that both sides must work together to eliminate remaining customs and administrative barriers that restrict the movement of goods and services.

He said a rapid conclusion of a preferential trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union could give a strong impetus to bilateral flows. Modi added that India and Russia had recognised the potential of the International North–South Transport Corridor, the Northern Sea Route, and the Chennai–Vladivostok Corridor, and said digital technology could help create “virtual trade corridors” that reduce paperwork and ease cargo movement.

Both leaders reiterated that India and Russia were advancing toward their stated goal of $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, supported by business-driven expansion across multiple sectors, including mobility.
