Until the JCW version arrives, the SE is the top-rung Mini Aceman model. It’s a range that is an EV-dedicated, SUV line-up that trades partly on its retro looks and charm.

The SE gets a larger electric motor good for 160kW and a claimed 406km of range. The Aceman is front-wheel drive. Charging from an 11kW outlet should take about five-and-a-half hours, but it can also cope with 95kW DC fast charging.

The SE is a five-seater with a decent sized luggage area and five-doors in a conventional wagon layout.

Over and above the E model, the SE gets different wheels, a better stereo, and the lovely, electrically adjustable sports seats from the JCW model. Price for the SE is $60,990.

The Aceman comes with Mini’s five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with eight years and 160,000km of cover for the high-voltage battery. There’s also four years of roadside assistance and capped price servicing is available.

David Morley

Contributing Journalist

Morley’s attentions turned to cars and motoring fairly early on in his life. The realisation that the most complex motor vehicle was easier to both understand and control than the simplest human-being, set his career in motion. Growing up in the country gave the young Morley a form of motoring freedom unmatched these days, as well as many trees to dodge. With a background in newspapers, the move to motoring journalism was no less logical than Clive Palmer’s move into politics, and at times, at least as funny.
