As Verstappen winds his way through the quick corners in the middle of the lap he tells his team “the rear axle’s bouncing a lot in this sector.”

The session will resume in one minute. The stewards are looking into it.

Piastri and Russell had a near-miss in the pits which led to the Mercedes driver locking up.

Second red flag of this session, this time for Albon who’s just made it to the barrier at Tarzan where Verstappen went off in first practice.

Hulkenberg goes fastest, Lewis Hamilton flies through the first sector but pirouettes in the second and has to back off.

Hadjar’s car has been recovered under a Virtual Safety Car. A handful of drivers have switched to the soft tyres and Oliver Bearman is fastest of all now on a 1’11.113.

Bad news for Isack Hadjar, however, as his Racing Bulls has come to a stop at Mastersbocht.

The session has resumed, minus Stroll, but the good news for the remaining drivers is the band of rain has passed to the west of the track and it remains dry for now.

Stroll snatched his brake as he turned in and there’s so little run-off due to the high line he immediately hit the barrier.

Red flag: Lance Stroll has had a hefty-looking crash at Hugenholzbocht.

Norris improves further on his mediums, 1’11.294, a second off his best time in first practice on softs.

Fernando Alonso goes top with a 1’12.131. The Sauber drivers went out on softs and so has Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who missed much of the earlier session after going off.

That won’t last long though as the rain is already falling. Lando Norris has slipped in a 1’12.615 to lead the times for now.

That has concluded and drivers are pressing on while the track is dry.

The second practice session has begun and like the first we have a Virtual Safety Car period.

The track is dry at the moment but the clouds are closing in and we may get some rain soon.

Second practice for the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix is coming up next.
