KSEB is exploring technological options, including artificial intelligence-based solutions, to avoid electrocutions caused by power lines. Power minister K Krishnankutty informed the assembly on Tuesday that KSEB was planning to make use of technology that automatically disconnects the power supply when live electrical lines snap.With the complete installation of smart metres, it will be possible to detect voltage/current fluctuations and assess potential hazards when wires fall. The first phase of smart metre implementation is currently underway, he said. “A committee comprising IIT Palakkad, the electrical inspectorate and KSEB officials is conducting a comprehensive study to explore the possibilities of using artificial intelligence,” the minister said. He added that the electrical inspectorate and local self-govt department were jointly implementing the ‘E-Safe’ project, aiming for an accident-free Kerala.Under Urja Kerala Mission, ‘Dyuthi 1’ project completed works worth ₹4036.30 crore for the development of electricity distribution network. ‘Dyuthi 2.0’ project aims to carry out works worth ₹4717 crore.

Safety Audits: Electrical safety audits were conducted in hospitals, commercial establishments and homes across state under the leadership of the electrical inspectorate. Efforts were ongoing to insulate power lines, establish new safety systems and install remotely controlled transformer units, he said.
