Karnataka transport department fixes learner’s licence online test deadline at 7 days

Transport commissioner Yogeesh AM said citizens can apply for an LL through the centralised web-based Sarathi software developed by NIC.

Karnataka transport department has set a deadline for taking online test for Learner’s Licence (LL). With effect from Jan 1, 2026, citizens applying for LL must compulsorily take the online learner’s test within seven days of completing the application process. If they fail to do so, their application will be automatically cancelled in accordance with Rule 11(3) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.Transport commissioner Yogeesh AM said citizens can apply for an LL through the centralised web-based Sarathi software developed by NIC. Applicants can use Aadhaar/mobile OTP to submit their application, upload the required documents, pay the fee and, after verification by the licensing authority take the test at any time of the day within seven days. This enables citizens to access the service remotely from wherever they are.The official added that applicants who already applied for an LL and are yet to take the online learner’s test must complete the test on or before Dec 31, 2025.
