Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has approached many Formula 1 teams about potentially joining them, according to Aston Martin’s Andy Cowell.

Red Bull announced Horner’s departure in July and he officially left the organisation last month. The 51-year-old guided his previous team to six constructors’ championships over a 20-year period and appears keen to return to the sport.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu reportedly confirmed they received an approach from Horner. Cowell, who took charge at Aston Martin in January, said he has spoken to team owner Lawrence Stroll about the former Red Bull boss.

“I had a chat with Lawrence this morning to find out what he knows,” said Cowell. “It looks as though Christian’s ringing up pretty much every team owner at the moment.

Horner has been linked to Alpine through Briatore

“I can clearly say there are no plans for involvement of Christian either in an operational or investment role in the future,” he added.

A move to Aston Martin for Horner would reunite him with Adrian Newey, the star technical director whose cars were responsible for all of Red Bull’s constructors’ championships. However he has also been linked to a move to Alpine, through his connections to the team’s consultant Flavio Briatore.

Steve Nielsen, who took over as managing director of Alpine last month, said he was not aware of any moves to bring Horner into the team.

“But Flavio and Christian are old friends,” he said, “that’s no secret. What they’ve talked about I don’t know.

“Everything I see and everything I know is there’s no truth in Christian coming to Alpine. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. This is Formula 1 after all.”

Williams team principal James Vowles said they have had no communication with Horner. “You should always welcome a conversation, there’s no point closing the door,” he said. “But we’re very happy with the structure we have and it’s working so I don’t see any reason to make any changes to that.”
