A long-time member of Lewis Hamilton’s management team has joined Formula 1 newcomers Cadillac to assist with their driver development.

Marc Hynes spent many years working alongside Hamilton after he arrived in F1 and moved to Mercedes. The pair split temporarily early in 2021 but reunited three years later. Hynes’ work included a management role at Hamilton’s Project Forty Four company and assisting the seven-times world champion in his racing activities.

Now Hynes has taken up the role of chief racing officer at Cadillac. He will work with Hamilton’s former team mate Valtteri Bottas and team mate Sergio Perez. Hynes will also manage reserve driver Zhou Guanyu and test driver Colton Herta, who is racing in Formula 2 this year and seeking promotion to F1.

“Building a new team in Formula 1 is a rare challenge and I’m excited to help shape the culture, processes, and performance standards from the very beginning,” said Hynes. “We have a strong and diverse driver line-up, and my focus will be on creating the clarity, alignment, and discipline needed to allow everyone – drivers and engineers alike – to perform at their very best.”

Hynes was a champion in the former British Formula 3 championship in 1999, when he competed against six future F1 drivers including 2009 world champion Jenson Button. He also coached F1 drivers including Roberto Merhi and Max Chilton, and raced in sportscars and in the Porsche Supercup which appears as a support event at some F1 rounds.

“Having someone of Marc’s calibre guiding our racing operations is a major asset,” said team principal Graeme Lowdon. “Marc brings an exceptional combination of racing experience, strategic understanding, and people management to the team. His ability to connect drivers, engineers, and leadership will be critical as we establish ourselves on the grid.”
