Lewis Hamilton said little in response to questions over his point-less finish in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver suffered a dismal weekend at the Hungaroring, starting and finishing 12th. He had little to say after his second-round elimination in qualifying yesterday, describing his efforts as “useless” and “shit”.
Hamilton dispensed with his post-race media obligations as quickly as possible after the chequered flag fell. He responded to most questions with only a few words, describing his race as “pretty, pretty bad.”
He was one of few drivers to start the race on hard tyres and immediately lost two places to Carlos Sainz Jnr and Andrea Kimi Antonelli. He rose as high as seventh before finally making his sole pit stop on lap 42.
But he fell back to 16th at that point and was only able to recover four places before the chequered flag.
Hamilton said he was “not really” able to make any progress during the race. “I was just stuck where I was,” he said.
He suffered one setback when Max Verstappen passed him for 11th place on lap 29. The Red Bull driver attempted a pass from a long way back at the high-speed turn four. Hamilton ran wide at the exit of the corner and lost the position to his rival.

“I saw at the last minute he was quite close to my rear wheel,” Hamilton told Viaplay, “so I tried to avoid a collision.”
The stewards announced they would investigate the incident and decided to rule on it after the race so they could speak to both drivers. However Hamilton chose not to speak to them and the stewards took no action over the incident.
His 12th-place finish is the first time he has taken the chequered flag at a grand prix for Ferrari outside of the top 10. He also failed to score in the Chinese Grand Prix after being disqualified from sixth place due to a technical infringement.
