MCG identified a gap of 20 EV stations for the city as of Dec 31, 2025, and stated in the report that it would set up these stations by Dec 31, 2026.

The city will get 20 additional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across major markets and community centres, following the signing of a MoU between MCG and a private firm, officials said.

Under the agreement, Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), will be responsible for the installation, electricity connection, operation, and maintenance of the EV charging stations, with no financial burden on the civic body.

Officials said that the charging stations aim to improve access to EV infrastructure for residents and encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles in the city. Officials said the locations were chosen to ensure easy public access in high-footfall areas.”This initiative is being considered an important step towards promoting green mobility in the city. With increased use of electric vehicles, there will be fuel savings as well as a significant reduction in air pollution. This will help in developing the city as clean, environment-friendly and aligned with future needs,” said the MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. He urged residents to support the initiative by adopting electric vehicles, stating that the expansion of charging infrastructure is essential for building a cleaner and more sustainable urban transport system. “While we decided to establish these EV stations in markets and community centres, the exact locations are yet to be decided. We signed the MoU and will soon roll out the exact locations for the residents,” said an MCG official privy to the matter. In its annual clean air plan for FY 2025-26, prepared recently for the city, the civic body also mentioned setting up EV charging points across the city. MCG identified a gap of 20 EV stations for the city as of Dec 31, 2025, and stated in the report that it would set up these stations by Dec 31, 2026.

Besides setting up EV stations, the MCG submitted augmentation of city bus services to control vehicular pollution, additional sprinkling machines, procuring large mechanical road sweeping machines (MRSMs) and medium sweeping machines, and planting native Indian shrubs on unpaved surfaces as ways to tackle air pollution.

The civic body also set a target of completing the legacy waste processing by March 2028. MCG also said 300 roads (over 3,500 km) in the city will be made dust-free as part of its clean air plan for the city.
