Delhi govt will intensify its action against petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles running without a valid fitness certificate. Heavy vehicles using slip roads to evade bookings will also be targeted. At a high-level meeting at Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday, transport minister Pankaj Singh unveiled a 100-day roadmap to revamp the city’s transport infrastructure. Singh also issued instructions to the transport department to take appropriate action against petrol pumps supplying fuel to vehicles operating without a valid fitness certificate.

In view of the pollution crisis in the city, environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa had earlier announced that vehicles older than 15 years wouldn’t be provided fuel at petrol pumps from March 31. Now, petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles running without a valid fitness certificate will also face action.

To strengthen enforcement, the transport minister directed the deployment of additional manpower in the enforcement department. He underlined the need for an effective strategy to ensure better compliance with road safety regulations.

Singh also reviewed the status of live tracking for public transport vehicles, including commercial vehicles, stressing that a more focused approach was required to enhance passenger security. He instructed officials to accelerate the implementation of live tracking mechanisms in all public transport vehicles operating on the roads of the capital. While DTC has been asked to prepare a roadmap to address its financial losses, the BJP govt will soon operationalise three new inter-state bus terminals at Tikri Border, Mundka and Narela. These new ISBTs are expected to significantly ease congestion and enhance regional connectivity.

Singh also reviewed the status of major Delhi Metro expansion projects, including the Mukundpur-Maujpur, RK Ashram-Janakpuri West and Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridors. He instructed officials to expedite the completion of these corridors to improve the city’s metro connectivity. He assessed the implementation of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy and directed officials to revise the targets for the new policy, which is set to be implemented from April.

Addressing senior officials of the transport department, DMRC, DTC and DTIDC, Singh said, “We need a proactive approach to modernising Delhi’s transport network. Our 100-day agenda is ready and we are committed to delivering results.”

With these strategic steps, the transport department hopes to enhance safety, efficiency and sustainability in Delhi’s public transport system, said the minister.
